Talking about Tom
Tit Tot in his book
English Fairy Tales,
Joseph Jacobs noted:
'One of the best
folk-tales that has
ever been collected,
far superior to any of
the Continental
variants of this tale
with which I am
acquainted.'
Drew Colby, with his backpack full of objects
and instant puppets spins a yarn all
about...spinning yarn!
All is not what it seems in this story where pegs
are legs and a greedy girl marries the king
because she eats too many pies! And where a
Gypsy woman with dirty hands saves the day!
(Did I mention the wool underpants?)
The show features well known songs that are
connected with wool spinning (for example "Baa
Baa Black Sheep" and "Wind the Bobbin Up") in
addition to imaginatively created music,
traditional storytelling, and funny object
puppets.
"We loved your
show. We
talked about all
the things you
used to make
puppets. Thank
you for a fun
time."- Darell
Nursery, 2007
"Big
imagination with
a few things" -
Jean September,
British Council,
2008
The story, an English version of
Rumplestiltskin, was contributed by
Mrs A. Walter Thomas to the Ipswich
Journal (number 15) in 1878. She had
heard the story from her old west
Suffolk nurse.
"You were such a big hit with
the children and the staff and
I am very grateful to you for
coming along." - Fiona
Johnstone, Deputy Head,
Oakfield Preparatory School
