National Storytelling Week runs from the 31st
of January to the 7th of February 2009. Started
in 2000 by the Society for Storytelling to raise
public awareness of this age-old artform, the
first week in February was chosen as it is not too
close to Christmas, and it coincides with
Candlemas, which traditionally includes the
blessing of the throat, a vital tool for storytellers.
